Greater Mohali Area Development Authority Allots Land for City’s First Old-Age Home
In a landmark development, Mohali will soon have its first dedicated old-age home after an 11-year-long legal struggle. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has instructed GMADA to provide land for the project, which will be developed by the Punjab Social Welfare Department.
Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi, who initiated the legal petition in 2015, announced that GMADA has allotted three acres of land in Sector 78 free of cost. The facility will be modeled on the successful old-age home in Tapa, Punjab, and is expected to become a modern, secure campus for senior citizens.
Key Highlights
- Legal Journey: Case filed in 2015; resolved after 11 years of hearings.
- Location: Three-acre site in Sector 78, Mohali.
- Capacity: Residential accommodation for around 150 elderly residents.
- Facilities: Family-like environment, healthcare services, emergency medical care, physiotherapy, and daily essentials.
- Social Impact: Addresses growing need for elderly care, especially for those living alone with families settled abroad.
This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring safety, dignity, and structured care for Mohali’s senior citizens, reflecting the city’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
