Air India Dreamliner Crash Report Expected By June 2026 - Minister Assures Transparency in Investigation Process

The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash on June 12, 2025, remains one of India’s biggest aviation disasters, killing 260 people. The investigation has reached its concluding phase, with the Civil Aviation Minister assuring that the final report will be released by mid-June 2026.

Investigation Status

Minister Naidu stated that multiple agencies are involved in the probe, including international aviation authorities, given the aircraft’s global operations. The AAIB is examining technical systems, cockpit procedures, and maintenance records. Preliminary findings suggested a sudden loss of thrust shortly after take-off, prompting deeper scrutiny of engine systems and electrical components. 

Technical Concerns

Pilot associations have urged investigators to widen the scope, citing possible electrical disturbances that may have triggered unintended fuel cut-off switches. Evidence, including cockpit voice recordings, indicated confusion among pilots, with one asking, “Why did you cut off?” and the other replying, “I did not.” This has raised questions about systemic failures rather than human error. 

Government Response

The Centre has assured full support to the AAIB, prioritizing compensation procedures for victims’ families and ensuring transparency in the investigation. Enhanced inspections of Boeing 787 aircraft operating in India have already been ordered to prevent similar incidents.
