The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to issue refunds to Class 12 students who were overcharged due to technical glitches in post-result services such as re-evaluation, photocopies of answer sheets and related applications. The move comes after several students and parents flagged unusually high fee deductions and failed payment attempts. CBSE has now acknowledged the problem and outlined a refund mechanism to ensure affected students get their money back.

The issue reportedly arose when payment gateways and backend systems malfunctioned during the rush of post-result applications, leading to multiple charges or higher-than-notified amounts for some candidates. With pressure mounting on social media and via school complaints, the board has moved to contain the fallout and restore confidence in its digital processes.

What Went Wrong In The Post-Result Window

According to CBSE, the glitch was linked to payment processing and server-side errors during peak traffic, particularly on the first few days after Class 12 results were announced. As students rushed to apply for rechecking, re-evaluation and answer-sheet photocopies, some transactions were either debited more than once or reflected incorrect fee amounts. The board has said that no student will be made to bear the cost of these technical issues.

How The CBSE Refund Process Will Work

CBSE has indicated that refunds will be processed directly to the original mode of payment used by students or parents during the application. Affected candidates are likely to be identified through transaction logs, bank reconciliation and payment gateway reports, with schools also asked to flag specific cases. In cases where automatic mapping is difficult, students may be asked to submit basic documents such as transaction IDs, screenshots or bank statements through an online form or via their schools to validate claims. The board is expected to set clear timelines for completing the refund exercise.

Students who suspect they have been overcharged or charged multiple times are advised to carefully check bank statements, UPI histories and card messages for duplicate or excess debits. They should keep a record of all transaction details and follow any official CBSE notification or school circular on how to register refund claims. Until formal communication is issued, parents should avoid sharing sensitive banking information on unofficial links or third-party portals claiming to process CBSE refunds.
