Dr. Jitendra Singh has reviewed preparations for the 2026 edition of the Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar coastal cleanup campaign alongside arrangements for the India International Science Festival. The twin initiatives aim to promote ocean conservation, citizen participation and a culture of scientific temper through large scale outreach, innovation showcases and youth engagement across India.

National Push For Clean Seas And Science Culture

Dr. Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, held a high level review with senior officials, scientists and partner organisations to assess ground readiness. The focus is on scaling coastal cleanup drives, improving logistics, and integrating scientific awareness activities with mass participation along India’s vast shoreline and in inland institutions.

Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 2026 Roadmap

The 2026 Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign is being planned as a multi city, multi state movement targeting beaches, estuaries and coastal communities. Authorities are working on detailed site mapping, volunteer mobilisation, waste collection and segregation systems, along with data driven tracking of marine litter to support long term policy on ocean health and plastic reduction.

India International Science Festival Preparations

Parallelly, Dr. Singh reviewed preparations for the upcoming India International Science Festival, which will bring together scientists, startups, students and industry. The event is expected to feature exhibitions, thematic pavilions, lectures and hands on activities that highlight India’s achievements in space, ocean sciences, biotechnology, climate research and deep tech innovation.

Citizen Participation And Youth Focus

Special emphasis is being placed on engaging school and college students, NCC and NSS volunteers, coastal residents and startups working in blue economy solutions. The objective is to blend environmental responsibility with scientific curiosity, turning Swachh Sagar drives and IISF sessions into living laboratories for sustainability, innovation and responsible citizenship.
