Indian Cinema Shines Bright: Nine Films Compete for Glory at the 2025 Oscars

As the excitement gathers for the 2025 Oscars, Indian cinema is making a splash with nine films still in the running for prestigious nominations. Among them are Suriya's Kanguva and Aadujeevitham in Hindi. Surprisingly, while it did poorly at the box office, Kanguva still managed to be included in the 323 eligible films vying for the Best Picture category.

Other notable contenders are Girls Will Be Girls, Santosh, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, and All We Imagine as Light. This year is historic in the sense that a Bengali film, Putul, also joins the fray, making it clear how diverse and rich Indian storytelling can be on the international stage. The nomination voting period started on January 8 and will close on January 12. The final list of nominees will be  announced on January 17, 2025. The ceremony of the Oscars is scheduled to be held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

With such strong representation, Indian filmmakers are expected to make an impact at the Academy Awards this year.
