India's Sugar Export Boom: 1 Million Tonne Quota on Track for Early Completion

India's sugar sector is poised to meet its 1 million tonne export quota in the coming two months, the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) said. The fast pace of progress follows the government's move in January to lift a ban on sugar exports for the 2024-25 season. Following initial fears of production deficits, good weather and improved yields have raised output. The faster export rate is likely to stabilize local sugar prices and infuse much-needed liquidity into sugar mills, which will make timely payments to farmers harvesting sugarcane. Industry analysts say this development is likely to improve India's position in the international market for sugar.
