Adani Power Limited has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for a 3200 MW ultra-supercritical coal-based thermal power project. The phased project commissioning will start by December 2030, with full operation expected by December 2032, boosting Assam’s energy infrastructure.
Adani Power Limited has been awarded a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited for an ambitious 3200 MW (4x800 MW units) ultra-supercritical thermal power project in Assam. The project signifies a major energy infrastructure boost to meet growing power demand in the northeastern state.
The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved APDCL’s proposal to procure power from this project at a tariff of Rs 6.30 per unit, following a competitive bidding process. Despite initial requests to negotiate for a lower tariff, Adani Power justified the pricing due to project-specific challenges like seismic risk and construction constraints in Assam.
Project commissioning is planned in phases, beginning with the first 800 MW unit by December 2030, followed by additional units at six-month intervals, aiming for full commissioning by December 2032. This will ensure a steady and reliable supply of power within Assam, utilizing local transmission infrastructure and avoiding additional central transmission charges.
As the lowest bidder in a competitive tender that included major power producers such as JSW Energy and Torrent Power Limited, Adani Power is set to strengthen its presence in the thermal power sector while contributing to regional economic development and energy security.
