Adani Power Limited announced plans to invest Rs 630 billion in two major energy projects in Assam, prominently featuring a 3,200 MW coal-based thermal power plant with Rs 480 billion investment. The projects are pivotal to boosting Assam’s power infrastructure and securing long-term energy needs.
Adani Power Limited is set to invest a substantial Rs 630 billion in two transformative energy initiatives in Assam, aiming to meet the state’s growing electricity demand and enhance energy security. Central to this plan is the establishment of a 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical coal-based thermal power plant, earmarked as one of the largest power projects in the Northeast region.
The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) has approved the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited’s (APDCL) proposal to procure power from this plant at a tariff of Rs 6.30 per unit. The project will be commissioned in phases, starting with the initial 800 MW unit targeted for December 2030, followed by subsequent units at six-month intervals.
Adani Power’s investment not only addresses Assam’s baseload power requirements but also aligns with broader national energy strategies focused on grid stability and transmission efficiency, as the plant’s location within Assam facilitates use of State Transmission Utility lines, reducing transmission losses and central charges.
The Rs 630 billion investment also includes complementary transmission and green energy projects to diversify Assam’s energy mix and support sustainable development goals.
