Sally Holkar, a Stanford graduate, was awarded the Padma Shri for her dedication to reviving Indian textiles. Originally from the United States, Holkar married into the royal family of Holkar and has spent over four decades working to preserve and promote traditional Indian textiles. She established the Rehwa Society in 1978, the WomenWeave Charitable Trust in 2003, and The Handloom School in 2013. Her initiatives have helped preserve the gossamer-like Maheshwari cotton from being wiped out in Madhya Pradesh.
