Due to early sunrise and sunset in Guwahati, the BCCI has adjusted the second Test’s schedule between India and South Africa, starting play earlier at 9:00 AM with tea served before lunch—a rare change aimed at maximizing playtime and adapting to local daylight conditions during the historic first Test match in Guwahati.
In an unprecedented move reflecting local conditions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shifted the timings for the second Test of the India-South Africa series in Guwahati starting November 22, 2025. Play will begin at 9:00 AM, half an hour earlier than usual for red-ball Tests in India, with the toss scheduled at 8:30 AM.
A key highlight of this modified schedule is the serving of tea before lunch, reversing the traditional order. The first session will run from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a 20-minute tea break. Lunch will be served later, between 1:20 and 2:00 PM, with the final session concluding by 4:00 PM. There is provision for a 30-minute extension if needed.
This adjustment accounts for the early sunset in Northeast India during November, ensuring maximum utilization of daylight. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, a native of Guwahati, described this as a practical decision balancing playing conditions and local climatic realities.
The Test at Barsapara Cricket Stadium marks Guwahati’s debut as a Test venue, with Indian stars like Rishabh Pant and South African captain Temba Bavuma set to make comebacks from injury.
