Starting November 1, 2025, UIDAI has rolled out new Aadhaar update rules that allow users to modify key demographic details—like name, address, date of birth, and mobile number—entirely online. The move eliminates the need for physical visits for most changes and aims to simplify identity management for millions of Indians.
Aadhaar 2.0: UIDAI’s New Rules Make Online Updates a Breeze
In a major tech-forward move, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a revamped Aadhaar update system that makes online edits faster, simpler, and more secure. Effective from November 1, 2025, the new rules are part of UIDAI’s push to digitize identity services and reduce citizen inconvenience.
Key Highlights of the Aadhaar Update Overhaul:
What You Can Now Edit Online
Users can update name, address, date of birth, and mobile number via the myAadhaar portal.
This eliminates the need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for most demographic changes.
Biometric Updates Still Offline
Changes to fingerprints, iris scans, and facial data will still require an in-person visit for security reasons.
Streamlined Verification Process
The system now uses automated document verification, reducing manual intervention and speeding up approvals.
Aadhaar data will be cross-verified with linked databases like PAN and passport records for accuracy.
Updated Fee Structure
UIDAI has revised the fee schedule for various updates. Online demographic changes are free for a limited period, while biometric updates will incur a nominal charge.
PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline
The new rules reinforce the December 31, 2025 deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking. Unlinked PANs will be deactivated from January 2026.
User-Friendly Interface
The myAadhaar portal has been redesigned for ease of navigation, allowing users to upload documents, track update status, and receive alerts—all from home.
This digital-first approach is a leap toward citizen-centric governance, making Aadhaar updates as easy as a few clicks. With millions relying on Aadhaar for banking, travel, and welfare services, the upgrade promises greater accessibility, speed, and transparency.
