India pledged ongoing assistance under Operation Sagar Bandhu, reaffirming its role as the region's 'First Responder' during this humanitarian crisis.
In a telephonic conversation on Monday, PM Narendra Modi conveyed heartfelt sympathy to Sri Lanka following the severe impact of Cyclone Ditwah, which has caused significant loss of life and widespread destruction. Modi reaffirmed that India stands in firm solidarity with Sri Lanka and will continue providing robust support for rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and restoration efforts. This assistance is being coordinated under Operation Sagar Bandhu, aligned with India’s Vision Mahasagar initiative.
President Dissanayake expressed deep gratitude for India's swift and effective response, including rapid deployment of rescue teams and essential relief supplies. India has already dispatched over 50 tons of emergency aid comprising food, medical kits, tents, and rescue equipment, along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams trained in urban search and rescue operations.
As Sri Lanka moves towards rehabilitation, PM Modi assured ongoing Indian support to restore public services and rebuild livelihoods in the affected areas. Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication to navigate the post-cyclone recovery phase effectively.
