The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mohammad Asif, imam of Bilali mosque, and Nazar Kamal, an electrician, from Haldwani, Uttarakhand, in connection with the November 10 car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. The arrests followed a crucial lead tied to the prime accused Dr. Umar Nabi.
The NIA, collaborating with Delhi and Haldwani police, conducted raids in Banbhulpura, Haldwani, resulting in the arrests of Mohammad Asif, the imam linked to Bilali mosque, and Nazar Kamal, an electrician, suspected to have connections with the Delhi blast mastermind Dr. Umar Nabi. The NIA team acted on call detail records tracing to Haldwani.
Following the arrests, police heightened security around the Bilali mosque and adjoining areas. The investigative agencies also questioned individuals in nearby mosques, including in Nainital, intensifying the probe. Local police leadership, including Superintendent Manoj Kumar Katyal, coordinated operations and maintained vigilance to prevent unrest.
Authorities confirmed the high-intensity explosion targeted a slow-moving car near a traffic signal outside the historic Red Fort on November 10, resulting in 15 fatalities and numerous injuries. The investigation continues to unravel the broader terror network involved.
