In a significant step to enhance connections between people and support Afghan nationals, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has rolled out a new visa program tailored specifically for Afghan citizens. Starting now, eligible Afghans can apply for Indian visas in six different categories, catering to a variety of travel needs—from business and education to medical tourism and family visits.
The new categories include Student, Business, Employment, Medical, Conference, and Entry (for family reunions and other purposes). This initiative comes after thorough discussions with representatives from the Afghan community and showcases India’s dedication to humanitarian aid and cultural exchange. Importantly, the program features fast-track processing for medical visas, acknowledging the urgent healthcare needs faced by many Afghans.
The MEA has emphasized that the revamped visa system will simplify application processes, shorten processing times, and enhance transparency. Afghan applicants are encouraged to apply online via the Indian government’s official visa portal, with assistance available in Dari and Pashto. This initiative is also anticipated to strengthen bilateral trade, education, and healthcare partnerships.
India has a long history of providing refuge and support to countless Afghans during times of crisis. The new visa program reaffirms this enduring relationship, offering hope and opportunities for Afghan nationals looking to visit, study, or work in India.
