India has intensified its humanitarian efforts in Myanmar under Operation Brahma following the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on March 28, 2025. Two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying 60 tonnes of relief material and a 118-member Indian Army Field Hospital Unit landed in Myanmar on Saturday. The medical team includes specialists in trauma care, emergency surgeries, and Women and Child Care services.
This marks the fifth relief flight from India, showcasing its commitment to being a first responder in regional crises. Additionally, a C-130 aircraft carrying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and 10 tonnes of supplies landed in Naypyitaw. India plans to deploy more aircraft and naval ships carrying essential aid to support recovery efforts.
As part of the operation, India will establish a 60-bed Medical Treatment Centre in Mandalay to assist the overwhelmed local healthcare system. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with Myanmar’s people, reaffirming India’s dedication to regional cooperation during emergencies.
The earthquake has claimed over 1,600 lives, with thousands injured and missing. India’s swift response underscores its leadership in disaster relief across its neighborhood.
