India-Sri Lanka Solar Alliance: Modi to Launch Landmark Renewable Energy Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the construction of a long-awaited solar power plant in Sri Lanka's Trincomalee district on April 5, 2025. This 120-megawatt joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board and India's National Thermal Power Corporation marks a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation. The project, previously planned as a coal power plant, has been reimagined as a renewable energy hub, reflecting the nations' commitment to sustainable development.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be conducted virtually, with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake joining Modi to witness this historic moment. The initiative is part of a broader agenda to strengthen energy connectivity and foster regional stability.
