India is set to enter the elite club of semiconductorproducing nations as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the launch of the country’s first indigenous chip by the end of 2025. The announcement, made during the 85th foundation day of Keshav Memorial Educational Society in Hyderabad, marks a pivotal moment in India’s tech sovereignty journey.

Six semiconductor fabrication plants have been approved and are under construction, including major facilities by Tata
Electronics in Assam and HCLFoxconn in Uttar Pradesh.

The chip will be manufactured under the Semicon India programme, launched in 2022 with a budget of Rs 76,000 crore to build a robust semiconductor and display ecosystem.
