Ghaziabad Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive advisory ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, imposing strict vehicular restrictions across major corridors including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The measures aim to facilitate uninterrupted movement for thousands of Kanwariyas walking to Haridwar with sacred Ganga water.
Traffic Restrictions and Diversion Plan
- From July 11 to July 25, heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses, and tractors are banned on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Meerut Road, and New Link Road
- From July 14, Meerut Road and GT Road will operate as one-way routes; by July 17, both carriageways of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be closed to light vehicles
- The Meerut-to-Ghaziabad carriageway is reserved exclusively for Kanwariyas; the opposite side will handle two-way light vehicle traffic until July 17
- Heavy vehicles entering from Loni, Tulsi Niketan, Seemapuri, and Anand Vihar will be diverted via Road No. 56 and NH-9 to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway
- No entry for heavy vehicles from Hapur, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, and Bhojpur into Ghaziabad; alternate routes via Sonia Vihar and NH-9 mandated
Critical Pressure Points and Emergency Protocols
- Twelve high-traffic zones including Mohan Nagar, ALT Crossing, and Hindon Metro Station will have extra personnel deployed
- Exceptions will be made for vehicles carrying essential goods like food, medicine, and fuel
- In emergencies, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway may be opened temporarily
Outlook
The advisory reflects Ghaziabad’s proactive approach to crowd management and religious safety. Commuters are urged to follow updates and plan alternate routes.
