Indian real estate developers have invested heavily in land purchases between 2022 and 2024, buying close to 5,885 acres for around Rs 90,000 crore. This is propelled by high demand for housing and commercial developments. Developers bought 2,335 acres worth Rs 39,742 crore in 2024 alone in 23 cities, of which 81% of the land will be used for residential projects. Tier I cities dominated the deals with 72% of the share, with Tier II and III cities taking up 28%. Delhi NCR topped the list of transactions, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) topping the acquisition chart by way of land area. Nagpur and Varanasi are new hotspots emerging. This indicates the confidence of the sector in India's long-term growth prospects.
