Maharashtra has unveiled its ambitious Vision 2047 education blueprint, aiming to transform the state’s schooling landscape by boosting enrolment and slashing dropout rates through sweeping reforms in infrastructure, pedagogy, and inclusion.
 
Core Goals and Targets
  • - Raise gross school enrolment from 41% to 70% by 2029, with a long-term goal of 100% by 2047
  • - Cut secondary school dropout rates from 7.7% to 4% in the next four years, and near-zero by 2047
  • - Achieve 100% foundational literacy and numeracy by Class 3
Infrastructure and Curriculum Overhaul
  • - Introduce model PM and CM Shri schools in every block with science labs, libraries, and sports facilities
  • - Deploy digital classrooms, AI-powered learning tools, and tablets for students
  • - Launch vocational education from Class 6 in emerging fields like EV tech, animation, healthcare, and Industry 4.0
Teacher Empowerment and Governance
  • - Mandate 50 hours of NEP-aligned training annually for all teachers
  • - Establish the Maharashtra Centre for School Leadership and Pedagogy Innovation
  • - Implement performance indicators for schools, teachers, and students
Inclusion and Migration Support
  • - Build residential schools in migration-prone districts
  • - Introduce bridge courses and real-time migrant child tracking via UDISE+
  • - Create safe spaces for student expression and peer mentorship
Challenges and Strategic Response
  • - Address poor student-teacher ratios and subject-specific teacher shortages
  • - Tackle declining outcomes in math and science, with over 75% scoring below basic proficiency
  • - Mobilise private sector support through a new CSR Cell
