The two-day 22nd Annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III Conference held at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) drew to a successful close with representatives from all eight Northeastern states. The gathering emphasized the role of legislatures in driving policy reforms, social inclusion, and sustainable regional growth under the theme, “Policy, Progress & People: Legislatures as Catalysts of Change.”
Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, urged lawmakers to adopt proactive legislative measures on climate change and to balance natural resource use with environmental conservation. He praised Nagaland’s Khonoma Village as a beacon of sustainable living and called for legislative oversight to bridge the gap between policy intent and implementation.
Nagaland Minister KG Kenye highlighted regional opportunities like ASEAN cooperation, tourism, health services, and connectivity projects such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, underscoring their importance for economic integration.
The conference culminated in the unanimous adoption of the “Kohima Proclamation,” affirming a shared commitment to democratic strengthening, socio-economic upliftment, and collaborative governance reflecting local needs and the wider national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Speakers lauded the spirit of dialogue and cooperation, aiming for enhanced citizen engagement, climate resilience, and economic growth in the Northeast as a vital partner in India’s future trajectory.
