Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has made its new strategic acquisition, expanding its footing in India's fast-growing renewable energy transmission segment. State-owned power transmission corporation has acquired Kurnool III PS RE Transmission Limited (KPRTL) for about ₹190.4 million, another milestone for its expansion strategy.
Highlights:
-
POWERGRID buys Kurnool III PS RE Transmission Limited (KPRTL)
-
Value of acquisition: ₹190.4 million (about)
-
A part of POWERGRID's strategy to increase renewable energy transmission capacity
-
Consistent with India's ambitious clean energy ambitions
The deal is in line with POWERGRID's consistent endeavors to strengthen India's power transmission network, especially in regions that have high potential for renewable energy. The Kurnool III PS RE Transmission project is anticipated to be important in evacuating power from the renewable energy resources in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, which is famous for its large-scale solar and wind energy facilities.
KPRTL's acquisition comes after POWERGRID's recent track record of strategic investments in the power transmission space. The company earlier this year acquired two other transmission firms, Bidar Transco Limited and Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission Limited, in a clear show of interest in increasing its network and capacities.
POWERGRID's emphasis on transmitting renewable energy also dovetails with India's aggressive goal of building 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. By upgrading the transmission for renewable energy, POWERGRID is playing a leading role in ushering the country into cleaner forms of energy.
This new acquisition will be expected to add to the growth path of POWERGRID as well as cement its position as India's most prominent power transmission company. As the renewable energy industry continues to grow, these strategic investments will increasingly play a crucial role in ensuring effective distribution of power across the nation.
