At the 2025 G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar articulated India’s call for greater global collaboration in key strategic sectors such as energy security, critical minerals, and maritime security. Through a series of engagements with counterparts from G7 members and outreach partners, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of reducing dependency, enhancing predictability, and strengthening resilience in global supply chains.
During the Outreach Sessions on energy and maritime affairs, Jaishankar introduced India’s MAHASAGAR outlook, focusing on Indo-Pacific cooperation and port-led development. He highlighted India’s role as a first responder in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) within the maritime domain, stressing coordinated efforts to combat piracy, smuggling, and illegal fishing.
The minister engaged in wide-ranging bilateral talks with officials from the European Union, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Ukraine, Germany, France, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, discussing strategic partnerships, trade, connectivity, regional security, and multilateral cooperation.
Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to upholding the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and called for policy coordination translating into tangible actions on the ground, positioning India as a constructive partner on the global stage.
