Samarth Steps In: UP Colleges Sync Up for a Smarter Academic Future

As part of a wide-reaching effort to digitalize higher education in the country, the Uttar Pradesh government has said that it will implement the pan-university and college launch of the Samarth portal by the 2025–26 academic year. The initiative is aimed at automating administrative tasks, promoting transparency, and consolidating digital operations in one umbrella across institutions.
 
Key features of the Samarth portal
 
- Admissions, staff promotions, pay disbursements, exams, and research funding will be handled by the platform
- All private ERP systems shall be phased out and Samarth shall be the only digital interface for higher education institutions.
- Government colleges and affiliated colleges have already joined, with many of them using the portal for leave management, salary processing, and student registrations
Systematized promotion and admission systems
 
- From July 2025, the students will be admitted through a single portal so that there is fairness and equity
- There will be another online system under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) to facilitate applications for promotions of faculty and make the process fully traceable
Future study support aids
 
- A portal specifically for seminars, research activities, awards, and academic scholarships is being developed
- The system will provide easier access to funds and visibility to academicians and researchers
 
Vision and influence
 
- Yogendra Upadhyay, Higher Education Minister, pointed out that Samarth portal is compliant with Digital India mission and makes Uttar Pradesh a leader in education reforms - The trial stage has already been initiated, with the full implementation anticipated by the year 2025.
