Actress Taapsee Pannu has stepped forward in a humanitarian gesture to ease the woes of slum dwellers struggling through the scorching heat of summer. Joining hands with the Hemkunt Foundation, she made a donation of cooling gear such as fans and water coolers to people whose basic facilities are usually not available. At a time when the mercury was crossing 40 degrees Celsius, the move has the potential to bring much relief to those facing severe conditions.
Terming the experience "deeply moving," Taapsee underscored the need to stand in solidarity with marginalized groups and hear their issues. "We tend to take simple comforts such as a fan or a cooler for granted, but for many, particularly in this scorching heat, even a gentle breeze can be like a blessing," she said. The Hemkunt Foundation seconded her views, pointing out the ways in which poor ventilation and shade in slum conditions worsen misery in the height of summer.
This human gesture is reflective of Taapsee's dedication to social causes in addition to her thriving career. Professionally, she has recently wrapped up shooting for her next film Gandhari, which she has called an intense and life-altering project.
