Delhi’s Information and Technology Department is spearheading the rapid rollout of an Aadhaar Data Vault to safeguard the personal identity data of its citizens. As Aadhaar numbers are essential for availing various government schemes and services, protecting this sensitive data has become a paramount priority. The project follows guidelines set by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to ensure data security and privacy.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has successfully tested the vault on a staging server. The Aadhaar Vault encrypts the Aadhaar number and related demographic details, restricting direct access and reducing the risk of unauthorized misuse. Instead, a secure reference key system handles transactions seamlessly within government platforms, eliminating data exposure risks.
The Delhi government recently signed an agreement with the Centre for Advanced Computing to support this project, integrating data from the e-District portal and proposed Unified Data Hub into the vault. IT Minister Pankaj Singh has called for an expedited deployment to enhance citizen data protection and streamline secure service delivery.
