Western Railways has introduced an OTP-based authentication system for Tatkal ticket bookings from December 1, 2025, starting with the Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express. This new process aims to curb fraudulent bookings, improve transparency, and ensure genuine passengers have a fair chance at securing Tatkal tickets.
In a significant move to streamline the Tatkal ticket booking process, Western Railways has mandated One-Time Password (OTP) verification for all Tatkal reservations starting December 1, 2025. This new security measure will initially apply to the Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express and later extend to other trains.
Under the new system, a Tatkal ticket will only be issued after successful validation of an OTP, which will be sent to the mobile number provided during the booking process. This step adds an extra layer of security to prevent misuse, bulk bookings, and technical exploitation that often disadvantaged genuine passengers.
The OTP verification will be required across all booking platforms, including the IRCTC website, mobile application, authorized agents, and computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters. Passengers are urged to provide valid and reachable mobile numbers to avoid booking issues.
Western Railways highlights that this change aligns with the Railway Board’s guidelines and aims to make Tatkal ticket booking more transparent, secure, and passenger-friendly.
