Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go on a four-day high-impact tour of the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23-26, 2025. The visit, invited by British PM Sir Keir Starmer and Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, will be a game-changer in India's diplomacy and economy.

Key Highlights

Landmark India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA):

Modi's visit to the UK (July 23-24) will likely witness the signing of the much-awaited India-UK FTA, doubling bilateral trade to $120 billion by 2030. The deal provides greater market access to Indian textiles, leather, and engineering goods and reduces duties on British whisky, automobiles, and medical devices. It also provides a three-year exemption from the UK social security contribution for Indian workers.

Bilateral Talks & Royal Engagement:

Modi will engage in extensive discussions with PM Keir Starmer on further developing the collaboration in trade, technology, defence, climate change, education, and health. An audience with King Charles III has also been scheduled, emphasizing the significance of the visit.

Strategic Focus on Inclusive Partnerships:

The two countries will talk on their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, seeking to increase people-to-people exchanges and development through innovation.

Maldives Visit & Regional Reboot:

Modi will visit the Maldives on July 25-26 as the first visiting Head of State from overseas during President Muizzu's tenure. Modi shall be the 'Guest of Honour' on the Maldives' 60th Independence Day, a new beginning in relations after recent diplomatic tensions.

India-Maldives Joint Vision: Leaders will discuss progress on the 'Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership', enhancing security cooperation, trade, and sustainable development. This aligns with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and strategic interest in the Indian Ocean.
