Railways Adds Extra Coaches To New Delhi–Katra Special Trains Amid Summer Travel Rush

On May 23, 2026, Railways confirmed that Special Train Nos. 04081/04082 running between New Delhi and Katra will be fitted with one additional sleeper coach. The decision comes amid a surge in passenger traffic to Jammu and Katra, particularly for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine during the summer season.

Train Augmentation Details

• Train No. 04081 (New Delhi–Katra): Departs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Augmented with one additional sleeper coach from May 22 to May 27.
• Train No. 04082 (Katra–New Delhi): Runs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Augmented with one additional sleeper coach from May 23 to May 28.
• With the augmentation, the total train capacity rises to 22 coaches, significantly boosting passenger accommodation.

Railway Officials’ Statement

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, stated that the augmentation will help hundreds of passengers secure confirmed tickets daily. He added that Railways is also monitoring other premium trains passing through Jammu Division, including the New Delhi–Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express and the Jammu Tawi–Sealdah Express, to ensure passenger convenience.
