Rupee Holds Its Ground, Closes Nearly Flat Against The Dollar

 It was, in many ways, a quiet trading day for the rupee. There were no sharp triggers, no sudden swings. Instead, the currency moved in a narrow band, with traders largely tracking global cues, oil prices and intermittent dollar demand from importers.

The near flat close suggests a tug of war between opposing forces. On one side, there is steady dollar demand, typically from oil companies and importers. On the other, intermittent foreign inflows and possible central bank presence tend to cushion any sharp depreciation. The result is a rangebound rupee, at least for now.
