Storm Signals Rising: IMD Warns As Arunachal And Tamil Nadu Reel Under Torrential Rains

In the past 24 hours, isolated areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu recorded 7–11 cm of rainfall, raising concerns about flooding and crop damage. The IMD has flagged incoming western disturbances that will intensify weather activity nationwide, particularly in northwest India. This combination of heavy showers in the south and northeast with looming storms in the north signals a turbulent week ahead for India’s weather systems.

Western Disturbances To Impact Northwest India

Two successive western disturbances are expected to sweep through the region this week.  

• Peak activity: April 7–8  
• Regions affected: Kashmir Valley, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi NCR  
• Weather events: Heavy rain, hailstorms, snowfall in higher altitudes, and strong winds  

Continued Rainfall In Northeast And South India
The IMD predicts scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in Northeast India for the next five days. Tamil Nadu and adjoining southern states may also see thunderstorms and heavy showers, adding to the already saturated conditions.  

Agricultural Concerns And Government Response
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed officials to assess crop losses due to hailstorms and heavy rainfall. Farmers in several states are reporting damage to standing crops, and the government has assured support through coordinated relief measures.
