US May Shield India From Section 301 Tariffs If Interim Deal Is Signed Before July 24

The talks come as India faces the risk of higher tariffs once the Section 301 probe concludes. US officials, led by Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch, are in New Delhi this week to finalize details of the interim agreement, which could pave the way for a broader Bilateral Trade Agreement.

The current tariff window expires on July 24. If the deal is signed before then, India would avoid punitive hikes and maintain tariffs at the pre-negotiated level of 18 percent.
