US to Lift Barriers on Civil Nuclear Cooperation with India

The United States is making the final steps to eliminate long-standing barriers that have long blocked civil nuclear cooperation with Indian firms. The major hurdles have been India's strict liability laws, which hold manufacturers responsible for accident costs, and these have long prevented collaboration since the 2007 bilateral agreement was intended to facilitate the sale of U.S. nuclear technology to India. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan recently said that New Delhi will be soon relieved of those regulatory barriers in a recent visit to New Delhi, marking the renewed commitment towards strengthening bilateral ties in defense and clean energy sectors.
