Ahmedabad emerges as India's ambitious contender for the 2036 Olympics

India has officially expressed its interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics, with Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar leading the charge as the primary host cities. The ambitious plan, unveiled during a high-level coordination meeting in Gandhinagar, estimates the cost of hosting the event to range between ₹34,700 crore and ₹64,000 crore. The blueprint, titled "Review Meeting – Preparedness towards Amdavad 2036," outlines a strategy to utilize existing facilities for 30% of Olympic sports, while 60% will be accommodated in newly planned infrastructure.

The proposal also includes four additional cities—Bhopal, Goa, Mumbai, and Pune—as part of the hosting plan. Goa is set to host football and sailing events, leveraging its existing infrastructure and expertise in organizing international sports competitions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized India's readiness to host the Olympics, marking a significant step in the nation's journey to bring the world's greatest sporting event to its shores for the first time.
