Assam CM Himanta Highlights Growing Mutual Respect Between Assamese and Bengali Communities

On March 18, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the changing dynamic between the state's Bengali and Assamese communities. Speaking at a gathering in Silchar, Sarma observed that over time, the rivalry and tensions that once existed between the two linguistic groups have progressively given way to respect and understanding. He attributed this shift to mutual attempts to promote harmony and cultural exchanges. The chief minister emphasised how the two communities now work together on social and economic issues, advancing Assam's progress. Sarma also emphasised how crucial it is to maintain linguistic diversity while encouraging harmony between various ethnic groups. In spite of its rich cultural legacy, Assam has made greater strides in fostering intercommunal relations, which are reflected in this statement.
