J. Hearsch & Co., Bandra's iconic bakery, marks its 120th anniversary this year, continuing to serve its famous chicken puffs and lemonade. Founded during World War I, the bakery's history is intertwined with global conflicts. German baker J. Hearsch leased the bakery to Sophia Liberata Fernandes in the 1920s due to strained German-British relations. Today, the bakery remains a cultural mainstay, drawing customers from across Mumbai with its affordable, nostalgic treats. Despite changing times, J. Hearsch & Co. maintains its century-old recipes and processes, preserving a taste of Mumbai's culinary heritage.
