CBSE’s New Language Rule: Three Tongues, One Class 9
CBSE has aligned its language policy with NEP 2020 by making three languages compulsory from Class 9 onwards, with at least two of them being Indian languages. The move aims to boost multilingual skills, protect India’s linguistic diversity and strengthen students’ proficiency in their mother tongue or regional language, alongside English and another language. This change will shape timetables, subject choices and teaching loads across CBSE schools.
