Cooling Delhi’s Streets: CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off Heatwave Response Vans

On May 6, 2026, CM Rekha Gupta flagged off the vans from the Delhi Secretariat as part of the city’s summer preparedness strategy. The initiative is designed to protect vulnerable groups such as outdoor workers, commuters, and the elderly from rising temperatures and heat-related illnesses.

Facilities In The Vans

Each van is stocked with water coolers, ORS sachets, first aid supplies, cotton towels, and caps to help citizens cope with dehydration, heat exhaustion, and sun exposure. The vans will move across Delhi’s 13 districts, offering rapid-response support at busy junctions and public areas.

Heat Action Plan

Alongside the vans, the Delhi government released a Heat Action Plan booklet to guide citizens on preventive measures. It advises staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight between 1 pm and 4 pm, and using protective clothing. Hospitals have also been directed to set up cooling areas for emergencies.

Residents can access urgent help through the 112 helpline, which will coordinate with the mobile units for immediate assistance. The government has also reviewed water management systems to ensure uninterrupted supply during peak summer demand.
