Copper Conquest: Vedanta’s New Plant Sparks Saudi Arabia’s Industrial Future

India’s Vedanta Ltd. is progressing with plans to establish a state-of-the-art copper rod manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khair Industrial City, located in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia. The project involves a capital investment of approximately SAR 100 million and targets an annual production capacity of 125,000 tons. This facility is strategically positioned to cater to the Kingdom’s increasing domestic demand for copper rods, primarily used in cables and electrical components manufacturing.

 

This initiative underlines a significant step in Vedanta’s expansion within Saudi Arabia, representing its first major industrial investment in the country. The copper rod plant will deepen the Kingdom’s copper value chain, moving beyond raw resource extraction toward advanced downstream manufacturing. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy and develop industrial infrastructure, reducing reliance on imports while creating employment opportunities.

 

Vedanta secured an exploration license in the Jabal Sayid belt during Saudi Arabia’s eighth licensing round, reinforcing its commitment to long-term engagement and further industrial development in the region. The company has completed all necessary approvals, acquired land, and placed technology orders, setting the stage for construction to commence shortly with commercial production expected by the fourth quarter of the 2025-26 financial year.
