Darjeeling Tea Production Plummets to Historic Low in 2024

The Indian Tea Association informs that Darjeeling tea output has declined below 6 million kilograms in the year 2024, thereby reaching the lowest level in about half a century. Erratic weather and early closures of gardens mainly caused the slump, according to the association; estimates indicate total decline in production amounting to more than 100 million kilograms over India. This decline not only affects supply but also impacts prices, as average auction prices have decreased. Industry leaders are calling for urgent measures to address these challenges and enhance quality.
