Delhi Metro's Three-Coach Revolution: A Game-Changer for Urban Travel

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to introduce India's first three-coach train service on the Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block corridor. This innovative initiative, part of DMRC's Phase IV expansion, is designed to cater specifically to short-distance urban travel, offering a cost-effective and efficient solution for commuters.

The 8-kilometer corridor, featuring eight strategically located stations, will enhance connectivity across South Delhi's key residential and commercial hubs. The stations include Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Dilli, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket Court, Pushp Vihar, and Saket G Block. Notably, Lajpat Nagar will serve as a triple interchange hub, connecting the Pink and Violet Lines, while Saket G Block will link to the airport corridor.

The three-coach trains, a departure from the usual four, six, or eight-coach configurations, are tailored for short-distance travel. Each train will accommodate approximately 900 passengers per trip, ensuring a comfortable and efficient commute. The smaller train format also promises quicker turnaround times, better frequency, and lower energy consumption, making it an environmentally and financially sustainable choice.

With an expected daily ridership of 60,000 to 80,000 passengers in the initial phase, the corridor is projected to exceed 1.2 lakh passengers per day by 2041. This development underscores DMRC's commitment to providing world-class urban transit solutions while addressing the unique needs of Delhi's commuters.
