Engine Oil Gets A Second Innings As HPCL And Tata Motors Pilot Circular Lubricants Model

In a joint statement, the companies said the collaboration will focus on building an integrated value chain spanning collection, segregation, re-refining and reintroduction of lubricants into the market. The model will be tested across select Tata Motors dealer and service networks, with HPCL’s expertise in lubricants and refining underpinning the technical and operational framework.

How The Circular Lubricants Model Will Work

Under the proposed framework, used lubricants drained during vehicle servicing will be securely collected from workshops and authorised service stations, then channelled to approved re-refiners. The intent is to recover high quality base oil that meets OEM specifications, enabling it to be blended into fresh lubricants without compromising performance or engine protection.

The initiative aligns with India’s broader circular economy, Extended Producer Responsibility and sustainability goals, especially in the auto and oil sectors.
