Despite a resilient knock of 37 from Joe Root and a quick 25 from Jofra Archer, England struggled to build partnerships against a disciplined South African bowling attack.

Marco Jansen led the charge with three wickets, dismissing Philip Salt, Ben Duckett, and Jamie Smith early on. Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder also made crucial breakthroughs, picking up two and three wickets respectively, while Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi chipped in with one each.
