The structure reportedly housed a coaching institute on the ground floor, while construction activity was underway on the upper floors. Authorities suspect that some of those trapped may be students.

Rescue Operations

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) rushed multiple fire tenders to the site, supported by police and emergency medical teams. Rescue personnel are carefully removing rubble, listening for signs of life, and working through the wreckage. So far, four people have been pulled out alive, though their condition remains unclear. Senior officers are supervising the operation, and the area has been cordoned off to prevent crowds from interfering.

Weather Connection

The collapse followed heavy rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Delhi-NCR earlier in the evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued red and orange alerts, warning of severe thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and winds reaching up to 100 kmph. Officials are investigating whether the extreme weather contributed to the collapse.

Residents rushed to the site with flashlights and mobile phones to assist rescue teams. Narrow lanes in the densely populated neighbourhood made it difficult for emergency vehicles to access the area. Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of people trapped or the exact cause of the collapse.
