Ghana Takes Bold Step Towards Wheat Self-Sufficiency with New Initiative

In a significant step in the direction of self-sufficiency, Ghana has established the Ghana Wheat Initiative to boost local wheat production and lessen imports. The initiative calls for the introduction of high-yielding wheat varieties, which have been field-tested across six regions with promising results. This project seeks to empower farmers by improving economic options for them and raising the competitiveness of Ghana's wheat sector. The Managing Director of Arima Farms Ghana, Saalai Manikam, described the proposed initiative's role in food security and nutrition terms. Currently, Ghana imports wheat from Canada and Russia, among others, but this initiative intends to change the flow.
