Hailstorm And Heavy Rain Prompt Agriculture Ministry To Coordinate State-Level Crop Damage Review

Unseasonal weather has caused significant crop damage in regions across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of North and South India. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts, the Agriculture Ministry is stepping in to ensure timely evaluation and support for farmers facing losses.  

Extent Of Damage  

Reports indicate that wheat, mustard, onions, bananas, grapes, and other horticultural crops have suffered extensive damage. In Maharashtra alone, over 2,300 hectares of farmland across 127 villages were impacted, affecting nearly 4,500 farmers. Similar losses are being reported in other states, raising concerns about reduced yields and financial distress.  

Government Response  

Minister Chouhan has instructed ministry officials to coordinate with state agriculture departments to gather detailed data on crop damage. Meetings with state-level ministers are planned to finalize relief measures and compensation packages. The focus will be on ensuring quick support to farmers during the harvest season.  

Weather Outlook  

The IMD has forecast continued rainfall in parts of Central and Northwest India, with yellow alerts issued for multiple districts. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further disruption to agricultural activities.
