Himachal Pradesh Experiences Fresh Snowfall and Rain; Orange Avalanche Alert Issued for High-Altitude Areas

Fresh snowfall has been reported at the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, while rain was witnessed over the weekend in certain areas. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange-level avalanche warning to high altitude regions of Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul and Spiti districts for the next 24 hours. Gondla and Kukumseri in the Lahaul and Spiti region received 8 cm and 4.2 cm of snow, respectively, while 2 cm was witnessed in Kalpa in Kinnaur. Rainfall had been witnessed statewide earlier, with Kalpa receiving 22.6 mm followed by Manali (18 mm) and Kotkhai (16.1 mm). Light and moderate rain and snow are expected to continue up to Thursday when the wet spell ends. Roads travelers need to exercise caution to stay away from blockages and low visibility in affected areas.
