Hydrogen Highway Unveiled: India Revs Up Green Revolution with Fuel of the Future

The Indian government has launched five pilot projects to deploy hydrogen-fuelled buses and trucks across 10 key routes under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has sanctioned 37 hydrogen-powered vehicles, including 15 fuel-cell and 22 internal combustion engine-based vehicles, along with nine hydrogen refuelling stations. Major companies like Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, NTPC, and others have been awarded these projects, with a total allocation of ₹208 crore. The initiative aims to validate the technical and economic viability of using green hydrogen in the transport sector, especially for inter-city movement of goods and people. The pilot projects are expected to be commissioned within the next 18-24 months.
