IEA Urges India to Liberalize Gas Pricing and Unbundle Industry for Sustainable Growth

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has recommended that India liberalize its natural gas pricing and unbundle gas marketing and transportation businesses to foster market growth. This advice comes as India's gas demand is projected to surge by 60% to 103 billion cubic meters annually by 2030. The IEA emphasizes that these reforms are crucial for attracting investments, enhancing competition, and ensuring supply security. While the Indian government has shown openness to these changes, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri indicates a cautious approach, stating they are not rushing to implement unbundling.
