The initiative, supported by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, aims to advance interdisciplinary research on well-being, mental health, and societal impact through structured academic programs.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has taken a pioneering step by establishing a dedicated centre that bridges spirituality and science. Inaugurated on March 25, 2026, the centre seeks to integrate spiritual practices like meditation with scientific research to address challenges in mental health, human well-being, and social development.
Vision And Objectives
The centre will focus on studying how spirituality and meditation influence consciousness, health, and community well-being. It aims to combine disciplines such as medicine, humanities, architecture, and engineering to create holistic solutions for modern societal challenges.
Academic And Research Scope
The initiative will develop structured research programs, educational modules, and public engagement activities. It will also explore the scientific and societal impacts of meditation, contributing to global research on human consciousness and sustainable living.
Support And Inauguration
Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, a globally respected spiritual leader and IIT alumnus, inaugurated the centre with a contribution of ₹5 crore. IIT-M Director Prof. V. Kamakoti emphasized that the centre reflects the institute’s commitment to student well-being and interdisciplinary innovation.
